I was an intern at the Maxis office of Electronic Arts in northern California in the Summer of 2003. Lucky for me, I got to work on "The Sequel to the Best-Selling PC Game of All Time" (TM). It was a really great experience, and I got to work with some brilliant people. Read below to see the lowdown on my intern duties.

 

Cheat Code Window Role: Developed Parser, Updated Window Code This is my claim-to-fame cheat code window. Now lets be clear, I just worked on putting the thing in, and not on the actual cheats, so don't email me asking about the different codes :-). I put in a cool auto-complete feature among other things. Also, on the first pass through I made a coding error that caused the game to run 50% slower. Life sucks and then you die (or you spend all night debugging)!		Credits Role: Sexiest Geek Alive This is yours truly in the credits. As you can see, Scott "alphabetically after Balsamo" Dods is listed before the sexiest geek alive in the Engineering Interns section. I never met the guy (he interned the year before me), but I'll bet I could beat him up.
GnuPlot Performance Tools Role: Developer We created a special performance debug mode that would output different statistics to a data file. I wrote some Perl scripts to take that data and output a ton of graphs. We even set up a system to have multiple computer configurations upload their results to a central server every day. I spent the bulk of my time on these performance tools.		Sims Online Role: Alpha Tester In my copious spare time at EA, I did some testing on the Sims Online. What a rough life!
Glamour Shot 1 Role: Poser Here's a pretty picture of the game with a bunch of stuff I didn't work on. But hey, it's dead sexy.		Glamour Shot 2 Role: Sexiest Husband Alive This is me and my hot wife. She's hot and perfect and cooks and cleans for me. And she's digital. I'm so lonely. Somebody hold me.
